On March 14th, Safe Bristolia, a well-known accommodation vessel, was towed out from Karmsund Servicebase heading for Turkey for green recycling. Constructed  in 1983 by Promet, Singapore, it has been one of the longest operating rigs in Europe. Originally the rig was designed as a semi-submersible offshore drilling rig, but was in 2006 converted to a accommodation rig. The rig could house 316 pax, is for sure a familiar vessel for many offshore workers in the North Sea.

Safe Bristolia is now well underway at its last 3550nm journey to the Mediterranean for recycling. As agent for the rig owner, MarLog has been deeply involved in the preparation of the departure of the 13 000 ton rig, along with Karmsund Servicebase. The operation included 4 tugs, 1 anchor handler, 1 support vessel, 1 guard vessel and 2 pilots, all working closely with the base, the owner and the agent. The operation went smoothly, and the rig was safely towed North out of Karmsund. With a length of 75m and beam 52m, the skilled pilots and tug crews safely navigated through the narrow strait Trollholmen and Galven, before heading offshore and handing her over to the buyer.

At MarLog we are proud to be a part of the last voyage of this significant vessel and wish Safe Bristolia a safe voyage to her final destination. We would like to thank our client Prosafe for this assignment.
